15 Names of God When Praying in Times of Need
Share
To us in the 21st Century, a name is just a name. We choose to give a child a name because it sounds nice. When we call out the name of a family member, friend, or co-worker, we know them by their name. There's nothing else to it.
However, names were intended to have a deeper meaning. Names were something that gave much hope and strength to the Jews in the Bible. Their names, whether meaning something good or bad, carried significance. Not only were the names of the Israelites very important, but so were the Names of God.
Abraham, Moses, David - they all experienced the beautiful and vast characteristics and nature of God. God would show up for them time and time again and they would learn to lean on God based on His different attributes.
God would reveal Himself to them, allowing them to see Him for who He truly is. When He would reveal Himself to them, He would do so with a Name, ensuring that He was with them. He would reveal Himself as He cared for their needs.
Let’s look at 15 different Hebrew Names of God, their meaning, and some of the verses you will find these Names mentioned:
Jehovah Jireh - The Lord Who Provides (Genesis 22:14)
Jehovah Nissi - The Lord Our Banner (Exodus 17:15)
Jehovah Ori - The Lord My Light (Psalm 27:1)
Jehovah Raah - The Lord My Shepherd (Psalm 23:1)
Jehovah Rapha - The Lord Our Healer (Exodus 15:26)
