Jesus is The Same Yesterday, Today & Forever

Malachi 3:6
“I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed.”
Throughout the Old Testament, we see the vast character and nature of God on display.
We see Him as Creator (Genesis 1), as rescuer and deliverer (Exodus), as merciful (Deuteronomy), as gracious and patient (Judges), as Holy (1 Samuel), as just (Nehemiah), as omnipresent (Job), as our shepherd and refuge (Psalms), as omniscient (Ezekiel), as righteous (Jeremiah), as loving (Hosea), and so much more.
Numbers 23:19 says:
“God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?”
God is not like us. He does not lie. He keeps His promises. And with that, we can have faith and peace that God is who He says He is. We can have faith that God has done what He says He has done, He is doing what He says He is doing, and He will do what He says He will do. We can have faith to take God at His Word.
At the end of the Old Testament, we read in Malachi 3:6 that the Lord does not change. He is God. He will always be God. That will never change.
It’s safe to say that all those characteristics of God are evident. And because that’s who He is, that’s who He continues to be today. Because God does not change.
As we read in John 1:1-5:
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. "
Jesus, being the Word, was with God in the beginning and He is indeed God Himself. And because Jesus is God, He does not change. He remains the same. He is who He is.
Hebrews 13:8 says “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
What a beautiful promise to hold onto.
This ever-changing world we live in can be quite overwhelming. Uncertainty causes anxiety and moments of panic and unrest. During these times, let us cling to Jesus and hold onto the truth that He does not waver. Jesus does not change. He calms the storm. He is perfect and will always be perfect.
He promised us His Spirit and that promise still stands. He is consistent in love, consistent in grace, consistent in mercy. He is still and will always be LORD. He is still and will always be victorious over Satan.
Just like in the Old Testament, God is still Creator. He is still our rescuer and deliverer. He is still gracious and patient. He is still Holy. He is still just. He is still omnipresent and omniscient. He is still our shepherd and our refuge. He is still righteous. He is still loving. Because that’s who He is. He does not change.
Hold onto these truths. Hold onto these promises.
The Jesus that fought for us on the cross is the same Jesus that fights for us today.
For in our yesterdays, Jesus sacrificed Himself on the cross for us in a perfect display of love, that we may be saved and be restored and redeemed through Him. And now, today, and forever, through Jesus we are redeemed and restored and loved.
His love for us will never go away. We are forever loved by a forever-loving God.
