The Comeback is Greater Than the Setback

Whenever we are going through a hard time, it often seems as if we will never get out of it. We were making progress. We were on the right track. And then something happened that changed everything – burnout, a loss, an injury, a rejection, a failure, a setback.

Setbacks are discouraging. They can be defeating. We feel like we are down and out. We feel worse about ourselves. We start to question ourselves. We don’t see an end to it and wonder if we are stuck there forever. We feel like it’s all over.

That’s exactly what the thought was surrounding the crucifixion of Jesus. After His death on the cross. They were discouraged. They thought He was down and out. They thought He was dead for good. They thought it was all over.

But the comeback is greater than the setback!

Three days later, Jesus would rise again and defeat the odds. He would defeat and conquer death. The resurrected Jesus would come back and show the power and glory of God. He would win the battle over Satan and He is alive today, at the right hand of the Father (Heb. 1:3; 1 Pet. 3:22; Acts 7:55-56)

What appeared as a setback, was actually a set-up for something greater. What appeared as a defeat, was the greatest victory ever won.

In Jesus, we can go from setback to comeback. From setback to set-up. From defeat to victory. From death to life.

So, wherever you are in your journey right now, remind yourself that the comeback is greater than the setback! It doesn’t always happen overnight, but it’s coming. And often, what appears as a setback, is actually a set-up for something greater that God will do in your life, if you’ll let Him.
