Fit For Life

Being "Fit for Life" is not about working out countless hours and getting rid of your not so healthy favourite foods so you can be ripped, it is about getting your body and mind in a spot where you feel good about yourself and you are healthy to do the will of God.

If you are interested in working out please see our free resources that have a beginners plan and a more advance plan.

The part we want to focus on here is healthy eating. You could work out 3-4 hours a day, walk many miles, but if you don't eat properly, it will have a negative impact on you such as lack of energy.

Here are  examples of Bible verses that talk about having a healthy lifestyle:

"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies." 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."                     1 Corinthians 10:31

"For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline." 2 Timothy 1:7

"Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well." 3 John 1:2

If we embrace godliness and rejecting false teachings, false narrative on tv, phones, we as believers can remain devoted to the truth of God’s Word which will assist us in developing a healthy lifestyle.

INTRODUCING THE 80/20 RULE

Food that is not so healthy for us can be very enticing because of the taste and convenience. I am not going to tell you to cut out all these foods totally from your diet, but I will encourage you to eat them in moderation. Same with healthy foods, we all need to still be careful of our portions because you can still overeat on healthy foods.

If you can maintain healthy eating such as fruits and vegetables, whole grains, eggs, lean red meat, fish for 80% of the foods you eat while not over indulging in it then the other 20% of food that you eat can be foods that are not as healthy for you. This will allow you the freedom to choose and eat other foods and not feel guilty about doing so.

Will you lose weight following this model?

Absolutely, you'll be eating fewer processed foods and less calories. The 20% indulgence of non- healthier foods keeps a realistic goal you're more likely to stick with long-term. You won’t feel deprived, and you’ll still be able to enjoy the foods you love without obstructing the goals you have laid out for yourself.

Is the 80/20 rule for me?

Starting anything new can lead to some skepticism of will it work for me. This rule of 80/20 works for everyone because it gives you the proper nutrition your body needs and allows you to have some flexibility to enjoy your favourite treats.

Do I need to count calories?

The 80/20 rule is not designed for you to have to count your calories. The key to this rule is consistency. If you have a not so healthy meal then get back on track with a healthy meal the next time. So, if you have 21 meal in a week, about 17 of those should be nutritious and 4 of them can be on the less nutritious side.

Do I need to also workout?

You don’t need to workout but we do encourage you to walk as any form of exercise is good for your body. If you are new to working out, you can try our beginner workout, looking for more advance we have that too. If working out isn’t your thing then just stick to the 80/20 rule with our walking program.

Many people look at the following people and think I want to look that. While it is ok to have goals comparing ourselves with others is not healthy.

A lot of advertising for workout programs, diets, pills, etc give false hope to people thinking they will look like the people they see in the commercial/advertisements if they just do the program or diet. The 80/20 principle we recommended here is not about that, it is about living a healthy lifestyle.

We understand everyone’s body type is different, people come from different types of backgrounds, different genes, this is about being the best that you can be, being healthy and feeling good about yourself and nourish, thrive and succeed.
